Australia – Unincorporated Associations

The term ‘unincorporated association’ is commonly applied in Australia in relation to a ‘society, chamber, institute, union, club, federation, council, league or guild which is essentially voluntary in nature and which exists for the purpose of giving expression to the desire of a group of persons to further a common interest or purpose.’

These organisations are usually funded by subscriptions from members and intermittent fundraising activities (eg raffles, etc). The members usually elect a committee to manage the affairs of the organisation. Unincorporated associations may have a statement of objectives and rules but many do not.
